Tesla Coil

This demonstration shows what happens when a fluorescent light bulb is brought close to a tesla coil. The bulb lights up as it gets closer to the coil.

Setup:

Place the tesla coil on table. Make sure the knob has been turned counter-clockwise. Plug in the tesla coil and turn the knob clockwise until a buzzing sound is heard. Hold the fluorescent bulb (DO NOT TOUCH THE METAL ENDS) and slowly approach the coil (DO NOT TOUCH THE COIL WITH IT). It should light up (it might be helpful to turn the lights off).
