Tornado Vortex

This demonstration shows turbulence and how a vortex is formed. As the water drains from the top bottle to the bottom one, the system is spun which creates the vortex.

Setup:

Place the apparatus on the lab table.

With one 2 L bottle full of water and one not, flip the apparatus over so the water filled bottle is on top and give it a spin. The water should begin to form a vortex in the top bottle as the water spills down. Note, the faster the water spins, the larger the vortex becomes.​
