Ampere Balance

This demonstration shows the force between two parallel conductors carrying current. The currents can be set up to be parallel or anti-parallel to each other.

Setup:

Place the power supply on the lab table. Connect both wires to the power supply. Connect the wires to the apparatus either so that the currents on the conductors are parallel or antiparallel.

Press the button on the power supply and release it. The wires will attract or repel.

Notes:

The power supply is operated by a push button that must be held in to remain on. Do not leave the current on for too long or the wires will get hot.
