Ring Launch
This setup demonstrated electromagnetic induction with alternating current. The AC in the coil induces an opposite AC in the aluminum ring which creates opposite magnetic fields causing the ring to be repelled off the tower. In the coil with light bulb, a current is induced in the coil which lights the bulb.

Setup:
Purchased Setup - Larger
Place the apparatus on the demo table.
Place the ring, coil, or broken ring around the core. Flip the switch. The ring will launch. The bulb will light on the coil. The broken ring will do nothing.
Notre Dame Built Setup - Smaller
Ensure the main power is off on the control box. Twist the red and black banana cables together. Connect the red terminal on the ring launcher to the red jack on the power control box using the red banana cable. Connect the black terminal on the ring launcher to the black jack on the power control box using the black banana cable.
Place one ring on top of the coil around the core. Select one of the three power settings on the control box. Turn the main power on the control box on and the ring will fly off. Turn main power on the control box off. Repeat this procedure with the ring with the slit and nothing will happen.
Notes:
Immerse the ring in liquid nitrogen to achieve a higher jump.
