Giant Earth Inductor

This demostration shows the presents of Earth's magnetic field as well as the concept of inductance. When one end of the large exention cord is spun (in a "jump rope" fashion) the EMF induced due to the change in the magnetic field flux in the closed loop can be measured on a galvanometer.

Setup:

Attatch the two plugs into the ends of the extension cords and place the two banana plug cables into the galvanometer. Lay the extention cable out across the front of the room. Spin one end of the cable to change the area of the enclosed loop. The induced emf can be measured on the galvanometer.
