About this subject
Year 7
In Indonesian in Year 7, students explore and become familiar with Indonesia through language and culture with an emphasis on awareness applied through the theme of "Learning Languages is Learning to Live Together."
Students are encouraged to listen to, speak, read and write in Indonesian through a range of interactions. They gradually build a vocabulary and grammatical base that allows them to compose and present different kinds of simple texts.
The focus areas include:
Greetings and Introductions
Number recognition from 1 -1000 and beyond, including counting.
Developing intracultural learning – where we are from, what languages we speak, what class we are in, and likes and dislikes.
Exploring friendship; types and qualities and giving opinions.
Word order with adjectives and pronouns.
Cultural and historical exploration of Indonesia, such as local dishes, tourism, transport, and animals.
In Year 7, students will undertake either French or Indonesian for a semester.
Year 8
In Indonesian at Year 8, students explore Indonesia through language and culture, with an emphasis on developing an understanding of the role of language and culture in communication. They gradually build a vocabulary and grammatical base that allows them to compose and present different kinds of simple texts.
The focus areas include:
School and Education – differences between school life in Indonesia and Australia, subjects studied, school facilities, and timetables.
Food – unique and favourite dishes. Explore the differences between local dishes and places to eat out in Indonesia & Australia. How to order foods and drinks and express likes and dislikes.
Telling the time
Families – making comparisons between Indonesia and Australia and describing family members including relationships, names, and ages.
Word order using adjectives and pronouns (personal & possessive)
Tourism – exploring the importance of tourism and cultural activities in Bali.
Developing cultural awareness through the benefits of studying a second language and travel.
