Students choosing Year 10 Work Preparation will be supported in researching various industry pathways and applying for and securing Structured Workplace Learning placements. Students will undertake a week-long placement each term. Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) is designed to help students apply the skills and knowledge they learn in a VET program in an industry environment.
Students who select this subject develop the skills, knowledge and attributes that are valued by employers in young people preparing to enter the workforce. Students work collaboratively in small groups to develop interpersonal and life skills.
Work Preparation is a semester long subject, taking up 1-line for the semester.
Students focus on developing the following key skills and attributes:
Teamwork
Problem solving
Planning and organising
Communication
Students also develop an understanding of workplace health and safety.
Types of learning activities may include:
Developing a current resume
Researching industry pathways
Preparing and sharing healthy family meals
Visiting local community organisations
Listening to guest speakers
This subject can be a useful introduction to further learning in VET (Vocational Education and Training) and VCE Vocational Major.
