About this subject
Drama is a creative subject that is practical and hands on that gives students the opportunity to develop creative, expressive and communication skills while participating in a variety of workshops that concentrate on improvisation, acting and performance. The practical nature of the Drama course allows students of all abilities to experience success and enjoyment in the classroom. Drama relies heavily on the ability to work cooperatively and creatively with others, enabling students to build self-confidence and leadership in a group situation.
Students explore:
· Extension of the foundational skills learned in Year 8 Drama.
· Practical workshops and play building to develop performance and expressive skills and exploration of the Elements of Drama.
· Exploration of a variety of drama forms and performance styles such as Naturalism / Comedy / Mime / Physical / Mask / Ritual / Epic / Verbatim.
· Develop collaboration skills in ensemble work and self-confidence.
· Ability to develop and sustain believable roles and characters in presenting and performance.
· Knowledge and skills for planning, directing, producing, rehearsing and refining self-devised and scripted performances for an audience from “page to stage”.
· Exploration of basic design elements in performance – costume, lighting, set design and sound.
· Ability to reflect, discuss and analyse professional and own performances.
Types of learning activities
· Practical workshops from group to individual.
· Devised and scripted drama performed in class and for a range of audiences outside the classroom – school showcase night.
· Drama journal of reflections, theory work, research and performance planning and development.
