Semester 1
In ‘Making Christian Decisions’, students will investigate the relationship between Christian values, conscience formation and decision making. Students will also understand the role of Scripture, the dignity of the human person and the Church in the establishment of a personal and informed conscience.
In ‘Death and New Life’, students will examine the central Christian belief in the resurrection of Jesus as the foundation of Christian hope. Through a study of Church teachings on death and eternal life, students will deepen their understanding of how, for Christians, death has been transformed by Jesus.
In ‘Who Am I Becoming? Identity, Dignity and Calling’, students will explore identity as a response to God’s call, recognising their dignity as people created in the Image of God. They consider who they are—and who they are called to be—in a complex world.
In ‘Celebrating Religious Diversity’, students will investigate key features of the major world religions. They will use this knowledge to examine the current relationship between the Christian Churches and other world religions and the efforts being made toward cooperation and unity.
Semester 2
Throughout Semester 2, students will investigate the Synoptic Gospel relevant to the liturgical year in terms of its context, content, structure, purpose, themes and audience. Students will also reflect on the impact of this unique portrait of Jesus for Christians today and make comparisons to the other Synoptic Gospels.
In this semester, students will also examine the contribution that Christianity makes to understanding the place of humanity in God’s creation and the development of an authentic attitude of stewardship towards the environment.
