Want to learn about the human mind? You have come to the right place. Psychology at year 10 is an introductory course that prepares students for senior study in Psychology. The course stimulates interests in a number of fields of Psychology and whets the appetite for further study. Students gain understanding of what it is like to study Psychology and what vocational pathways exist within the field of Psychology. The course is designed to be thought-provoking and practical.
Year 10 Psychology is the ideal preparation for VCE Psychology, so come and investigate the exciting world of thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Students develop a broad understanding of the reasons why we behave in particular ways, examining the influences on human behaviour. Students begin by investigating why Psychology is considered a Science, the key foundations of psychological research and the ethical and safety principles that govern the study.
Students will study the adolescent brain; and investigate how our lifestyle can directly influence how our brain works by understanding the impact that sleep, diet, exercise and technology have on the brain. Students will then delve into positive psychology, and investigate the concept of happiness and how optimism, growth mindset, and mindfulness can influence our pursuit of happiness.
Students will explore the concepts of Forensic Psychology to understand criminal behaviour, focusing on the reliability of our memories, what can influence eye-witness testimonies and other roles of the forensic psychologist. Finally, students learn about the impacts of motivation and confidence: exploring how performance is affected by motivation, confidence, stress and teamwork.
Through a multitude of practical experiences, and research you will enter the world of the human mind while developing investigative and communication skills.

The study of Psychology leads to opportunities in a range of careers that involve working with children, adults, families and communities in a variety of settings. These include academic and research institutions, management and human resources, and government, corporate and private enterprises.
