Year 7
Year 7, Semester 1
During Semester 1, students investigate the concept of belonging and examine various forms of prayer used within the school and local community. Students are encouraged to develop an awareness of the charism of the school from studying the lives of our founder and who their School Houses are named after, as well as the history and values of their school. Students will also consider their school within the context of the local parish and Sandhurst Diocese.
Students will also explore the revelation of God through all of creation. Students will explore how God’s creative act invites us to shape our lives, relationships and world by reaching out and actively responding to the call to be co-creators. Students will explore the different religious and non-religious views on how the world was created. A connection to Aboriginal Spirituality is intertwined within the unit as students explore the Indigenous connection to land and draw connections to the Christian view of stewardship.
Year 7, Semester 2
Throughout Semester 2, students will explore the story of Moses. Students examine the story of the Israelites in Egypt and how Moses led them out of slavery to the Promised Land. The significance of the Passover and the Ten Commandments as covenant will be explored in both their historical and contemporary contexts.
Students will also examine how Jesus reveals to us the human face of God. Jesus shows us what it means to be in a loving relationship with God and with each other. Students will explore how Jesus shows us who God is and what it means to be human.
Year 8
Year 8, Semester 1
During Semester 1, students will investigate the concept of justice. Scripture and Church teachings will be examined to highlight ways to promote right relationships. Students are encouraged to develop an awareness of justice and injustice in the world today, and a challenge is issued for each student to act justly towards others and the world.
Students will also study the development of the early church and the experiences of the Christian community. Students explore the life of St Paul, with a focus on his missionary work and the impact of his spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ. Students critically reflect upon the Church today and compare it with life in the early Christian communities.
Year 8, Semester 2
Throughout Semester 2, students will explore some of the foundational ideas of the Kingdom of God present in our world. Students will identify realistic and practical ways in which they can live the Kingdom of God in the world today.
Students will also explore the meaning of religion and the place of religious practice in life. In particular, students will study how human beings are drawn towards the search for answers to fundamental questions such as the meaning and purpose of all life.
