Year 10 Health and Human Development is a semester-based subject which provides students with knowledge of issues important to their physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual health and well-being. The unit looks at a range of topics on things necessary for them to live a healthy and full life and consider the decisions they face now and in the future. It provides students with strategies to optimise their own health and provides them with information about where to go for help on a variety of issues to optimise all dimensions of their health and well-being. The course consists of class discussions, paired and group work, some guest speakers, physical activity and exercise and research for some topics.

The dimensions of health and well-being. A comparison in health status between two population groups
Rights and responsibilities in healthy relationships and working towards developing independence as a young adult
Sexual health
Stages of the lifespan
Mental health issues for adolescents
Nutrition
Class assignments and booklet work.

Physical Activity- Yoga, meditation, sport and more
Multimedia presentations – Microsoft PowerPoint, Publisher and Movie Maker
End-of-semester examination
Year 10 Health and Human Development initially prepares students for further study in VCE Health and Human Development.
This can then be used as preparation for careers in areas such as Nursing, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Occupational Therapy, Childcare, Teaching, Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Health Promotion, Nutrition, Dietetics and Foreign Aid.
