About this subject
Drama is a creative and collaborative subject that requires students to work with focus, energy and fun. Drama is an excellent opportunity for students to build their confidence, team building and cooperation, creative thinking, the ability to think on their feet, and public-speaking and communication skills. It enables students to participate and lead in workshops that allow students of all abilities to experience success in learning tasks.
Student explore:
· Creativity – the ability to respond to situations and seek solutions
· Confidence – the ability to act and react to situations and others
· Critical Thinking – the identification and evaluation of evidence to guide decision making
· Collaboration – the ability to work with others on a shared learning task or project
· Communication – the expression of ideas to others (within the class and to the audience)
· Practical workshops and play building to develop performance and expressive skills to create a variety of characters in appropriate situations.
· Introduction and use of the Elements of Drama to enhance storytelling.
· Introduction and exploration of a variety of drama forms and performance styles such as Naturalism / Comedy / Mime.
· Planning, rehearsing and refining self-devised and scripted performances for an audience.
· Ability to reflect, discuss and analyse professional and own performances.
Types of learning activities
· Practical workshops from group to individual.
· Devised and scripted drama performances presented in class and for a range of audiences outside the classroom – class demonstration night.
· Drama journal of reflections, theory work, research and performance planning and development.
