About this subject
This semester based unit focuses on the characteristics of outdoor environments and different ways of understanding them, as well as the impact of humans on outdoor environments. Practical outdoor experiences enable students to develop skills related to minimal impact travelling and living, and to experience the impact of technology on outdoor environments.
Students use these experiences as the basis for reflection and for analysis of theoretical knowledge about the effects of natural and human-induced impacts on outdoor environments. Through outdoor experiences, students develop practical skills and knowledge to help them live sustainably in outdoor environments.
Please note - This elective includes compulsory excursions and an overnight camp. These will include activities such as:

Only students who submit an application form by the due date will be considered for this subject. Year 9 Outdoor Education application forms can found in the student links section on SIMON. Students can also request a copy of the application form from their 2025 Health and PE Teacher.
Students in Year 9 may complete up to a maximum of two Health and Physical Education electives across the year. For practicality and safety reasons, the number of classes for each subject, as well as the size of classes, will be capped. Depending on enrolment demands across all Year 9 elective subjects, students may be placed in one or two Health and Physical Education electives. Students wishing to undertake two Health and Physical Education electives should enter these in preferential order. The College will always endeavour to place students in their chosen electives, however due to our large cohort of students, we cannot guarantee this will always occur.
