About this subject
This is a semester- based elective, delivered in the Trade Training Centre at Coolock. Emphasis is placed on providing hands-on, practical learning wherever possible with supporting theoretical components. Students are provided with opportunities to learn about the critically important role that agriculture and horticulture play in our lives and its place within our school, community and global community.
This elective assists students to develop skills and qualities such as working in teams, accountability, resilience, initiative, taking responsibility within a practical, hands-on learning environment.
This elective provides students with a strong skill set in preparation for undertaking Certificate II in Agriculture and Certificate II in Animal Studies through enhanced research skills and animal welfare knowledge.
Due to the nature of this subject, animal ethics, husbandry and stocking requirements will influence the number of participants in the program and as such, students are required to complete an application process.
Students will be required to complete an in-depth occupational health and safety induction before participating in practical activities and failure to follow these guidelines will result in review of a student’s participation at the TTC.

Plant propagation
Food production and sustainability
Farm maintenance
Occupational Health and Safety.
