Understanding the Human Body is a challenging science subject, that explores a range of biological systems. Different organs work together to perform common functions, like how the parts of your circulatory system pumps nutrients and gases around your body. Groups of organ systems work together to make complete, functional organisms, like us! There are 11 major organ systems in the human body, in this subject we explore three of these systems and links these systems to everyday activities or scenarios, e.g. the effect of caffeine on heart rate.
Students explore the functions of the human body by studying the topics of cells, cell membranes, the circulatory, respiratory and the immune systems. They complete a series of theoretical and practical exercises to show the links between these systems and disease.
Class learning activities include:
practical exercises
media analysis
small group activities
role plays
building biological models, e.g. a lung model
simulation activities as interactives, dissections, quizzes
This subject provides students with a basis for further study in VCE Biology, VCE Health and Human Development and VCE Physical Education.
