Law & Order gives an insight into the basics of the Australian political and legal systems which affect every aspect of our lives. Students gain an understanding of some political and legal issues and how they affect them. Students would study Law & Order if they enjoy knowing how our legal and political systems work and are interested in law enforcement, court proceedings and parliamentary systems.
Law & Order is a semester-based subject which covers an overview of the Australian Constitution, the structure of our Parliaments, political parties, how laws are made and how we compare to other nations. It also covers the court systems, police powers, criminal and civil laws and types of punishments.
Students will undertake a variety of activities including:
Visit to the local courts – when available
Case study analysis
Short answer questions
Research tasks
Group work
End of semester examination
Year 10 Law & Order prepares students for further study in VCE Politics, Legal Studies and History.
Studying Law and Order is a great foundation for university degrees in Humanities, Politics, Law, Sociology, Journalism and International Relations, as well as scope for a future career as a Politician, Lawyer, Journalist or Educator.
