About this subject
Year 9 Music looks to build on the skills developed and introduced in Year 7 and 8 Music. We start to focus heavily on developing your ear and building your ability to convert sounds into music notation and vice versa. We recommend that you’re learning an instrument (either at the College or externally) when undertaking Year 9 music, as you will be required to perform for the class as a soloist and come together to form a class ensemble. Each week we rehearse as an ensemble using melodic and percussion instruments as a ‘Rock Band’, preparing for performances both in the Quad and formally in College Performance events.
Year 9 Music introduces the elements of music, which we unpack through Composition and Listening Analysis activities, in order to expand your vocabulary when talking and writing about what you can hear. We create a folio for each of these areas to be presented for assessment.
