If you have a passion for a subject that you would like to explore in detail, if you enjoy research and finding answers to questions then this subject may be for you.
Extended Investigation will enable you to develop, refine and extend knowledge and skills in independent research as you carry out an investigation that answers a question of your choice.
What is studied?
You learn how to Design an investigation. On completion of unit 3 you will be able to write a research plan, you will begin research, and you will present an oral report on your topic discussing the research methods to an educated non-specialist audience.
What type of work is done?
Designing a Research question – you will develop an understanding of what is a good question - Written Rationale SAC
Planning and commencing the investigation - you will develop an ethical, robust, disciplined and rational approach to gathering information - Written Research Plan SAC and Oral Defense SAC
Critical thinking - you will analyse and evaluate the difference between opinion, belief, anecdote, evidence and substantiated views – Critical Thinking Test
Complete the investigation and write the final report that responds to the research question – you will interpret and evaluate the evidence - Final report SAC
Present the investigation and respond to questions and challenges – Final Oral SAC
