February is Black History Month! As part of RMS’s continued efforts to nurture and honor diversity in our school and to enrich and enhance our connections with our local community, this Black History Month, Robious Middle School will engage in Round Table activities, lessons, and events focused on African-Americans of note. We will use this opportunity to promote and acknowledge less celebrated and less well-known African-Americans who have contributed to the American tapestry and to foster a better understanding of Black history and the Black experience in America.
As we take this month to reflect on and recognize Black History, please note that Black History is to be celebrated all year long. Black History is not, as Jason Reynolds puts it, “...the paragraph that’s read during Black History Month (Harriet! Rosa! Martin!)...”
This week is National School Counselor Week! School counselors are the unsung heroes of education. Melanie Smith, Elizabeth Farner, Amy Webster, and Morgan Thatcher deserve more than a week of recognition. I honestly don't know how they manage everything that they do for every stakeholder at RMS. They log an incredible number of hours and much of what they do is behind the scenes. They are always ready to drop everything to help anyone with anything. The RMS community is extremely fortunate to have such dedicated and positive individuals as our school counselors. Be sure to thank them...often
A BIG Congratulations to 8th grader Nathan Bartee for earning 4th chair in the High School Concert Band part of the District 3 All-District Band! More so - Nathan auditioned this past week virtually and was the only middle school student to audition amongst high schoolers playing music alongside others upwards of four years his senior.
Way to represent Robious and fellow middle schoolers, Nathan!
