The Virginia Freedom Flag will be raised along with the American flag on Monday (9/12) and will be raised every day for the remainder of September in remembrance of 9/11.
The first PTA meeting of the school year will be on Monday (9/12) at 7:00 in the library. All are welcome.
Boys soccer tryouts will be 3:00 - 4:30 on Monday (9/12), Tuesday (9/13), and final cuts will be made on Wednesday (9/14).
There will be a cross country informational meeting on Monday (9/12) from 3:00 - 3:30 in the forum. Tryouts will be on Thursday from 3:00 - 4:30.
6th grade Back to School Night is on Tuesday (9/13). We will begin in the forum at 6:30pm. We will have overflow parking available next door at Robious Elementary School (Thank you Mrs. Childress). Please refrain from parking on side streets as this impedes emergency vehicle access in the event of an emergency. The PTA will be on hand to accept your membership fee and spirit wear will be available for purchase. RMS will be participating in the Goodwill Denim Drive again. Please bring any denim that you would like to donate to this worthy cause.
We will be having our expectations assemblies this week. One of the hot topics we are going to cover is the dress code. All of our young scholars will be reminded that skirt and short length can be no more than five inches above the knee (standard index card length) and that leggings/yoga pants are going to be treated as though they are bare skin. This means that leggings cannot be worn on their own and the outer covering must be the appropriate length. Also, no rips, tears, or holes can be more than five inches above the knee. Many more exciting topics will be covered during these assemblies.
Chromebooks will be distributed to students on September 19th. Please be sure to pay the Chromebook fee and turn in the signed mobile device agreement form so that your student can collect her/his Chromebook.
Maggie Walker Governor's School will hold their annual parent/student Informational night at Swift Creek Middle School in the auditorium on October 10th from 6:00 - 7:00pm. An information flyer will be sent home with 8th graders.
I want to thank all of our young scholars for a great week! I've enjoyed meeting many raiders and I look forward to meeting many more!
Yours in education,
Derek Wasnock, Ed.D.
