Each year, during the first full week of December, schools across the nation take a moment to celebrate their progress in inclusive practices. Schools focus on their growth in promoting and embracing all students, and ensuring every student has an opportunity to learn, participate, and contribute. Robious will continue to study, implement and reflect on best practices that are essential to the success of students in our classrooms that lead to achieved success. The theme for this year is, STAND UP, SIT TALL FOR INCLUSION because inclusion results in improved outcomes for ALL students! Our work is not done but working together we will STAND UP, SIT TALL FOR INCLUSION!
The RMS PTA is sponsoring a contest celebrating Inclusive Schools Week. Click here for more information.
Here's a message from your RMS PTA: We decided that December is such a busy month for folks that we will not have an official meeting on December 11th. HOWEVER, we do encourage all board members (as well as any parent) to attend the next "coffee talk" presented by the Diversity & Inclusion Committee. This will be held THIS Wednesday December 6th at 7pm in the library. Dr. Wasnock will be sharing the results of discipline disparities that we asked for information on, as well as furthering conversation about the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities role at RMS and how we plan to go forward in addressing inequality. We will also hear from Jessica Hawthorne from VCIC as to what they have been sharing with RMS staff and students. Our first coffee talk generated wonderful discussion - let's continue that! There will be teas, hot chocolate and desserts.
This is from two students in James River High School Leadership: Our names are Erin Siedlecki and Emily Crocco, and we are students in the Leadership and International Relations Specialty Center at James River High School. For our senior year service project we are planning and executing the Unified Basketball program supporting Special Olympics VA. This is a six week free basketball program for children in grades 3-8. At this program, a child with disabilities and a child without will be paired up in order to promote inclusivity and teamwork through different basketball games, drills, and team building activities. Attention Band Students and Parents: The Fruit is Here! If your student ordered fruit from the Band Fall Fruit Fundraiser, orders will be ready for pick-up Tuesday, December 5 - 3:10PM-6:00PM - Bus Loop by the Band Room. If students ordered more than two boxes of fruit, they will NOT be able to carry that home on the bus. Please plan to pick-up orders larger than two boxes that afternoon/evening. Email Mrs. Eaton with any questions or concerns: Erica_Eaton@ccpsnet.net
