Post date: Sep 11, 2016 2:00:04 AM

Hello Robious Middle Families!

My name is Derek Wasnock and I have the honor and privilege to serve the Robious community as principal. I hope that you are having a good summer, but I am extremely anxious to begin learning and creating with all of your young scholars. It's going to be a great year!

Here are some dates to remember:

Schedule Day is Thursday, September 1st. Sixth grade and new student orientation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00pm. During this time students will be able to pick up their schedules, tour the school, meet teachers and staff, and join the PTA. 7th and 8th graders will have the same opportunity from 4:00 - 6:00pm.

Click here for information on bus routes.

Any incoming 6th grade band student who has not yet attended an instrument fitting session can come to our final one before school starts: Monday August 29 - 3:00 - Forum.

6th grade Back To School Night is September 13th at 6:30.

7th and 8th grade Back to School Night is September 20th at 6:30.

September 30th is an early-release day and dismissal will be at 11:55.

If you would like your young scholar to try out for a sport, she/he will need a physical dated May 1, 2016 or after to participate. The in-school physicals are scheduled for September 9th from 3:15 - 4:15 in the gymnasium.

Be sure to check out the CCPS webpage here for important information such as the 2016-2017 school calendar, lunch menus, and more.

Principal

Here is a message from the RMS PTA,

Welcome to all of our new and returning families at RMS. We are so excited to start the 2016-17 school year! Do you know all of the things the PTA does throughout the year? Here are just some of the things that the PTA does:

· We support the many clubs and activities throughout the school.

· We have a fall dance for the entire school and a spring dance for eight graders.

· We help with landscaping and beautification of the school grounds (mulch, weeding, etc). We will have our Annual Day of Service on Saturday, August 27 from 8am-12noon. The sign up link can be found on our website and on our Facebook page.

· We support the library during the year with special programs and author visits.

· We support the school reading programs, providing incentives throughout the year.

· We do student appreciation activities monthly and support our teachers with great staff appreciation events.

· We help out with volunteer greeters/helpers at the school front desk (two shifts a day).

· We also have an eight grade celebration.

Reflections

Another great program supported and encouraged by the PTA is the Reflections program (Arts in Education). This year’s theme is “What is Your Story”. Entries can be in the form of literature, photography, music, dance, etc. More information on the Reflections program can be found on the PTA website, rmspta.my-pta.org. RMS usually has many entrants and winners, both at the county and state level.

How to Help Us

In order to support the many things that we do, we do have to do some fundraising and we ask that you join the PTA. Joining the PTA does not obligate you to volunteering. We ask that you join to show your support for our school and PTA. Our fundraising is done through direct donations and through Kroger Community Rewards. For direct donations, we ask that you make a tax deductible donation to the PTA (the Raider Fund). Every amount helps! Kroger Community Rewards is a great, very easy way to make a difference. By registering you Kroger card, Kroger will donate a percentage of your purchases directly to the PTA. Cards can be registered at krogercommunityrewards.com. It is only a couple of steps and makes a huge difference for the RMS PTA. We also participate in the Chesterfield Towne Center/Goodwill Annual Denim Drive. We are so proud to say that last year we took first place for our collection of denim donations and received a check for our efforts and your donations

Spirit Wear

Have you purchased your RMS spirit wear? Spirit wear will be available for purchase at schedule day. We will also be answer any questions you may have about the RMS PTA. Don’t forget to bring your checkbook or cash to purchase spirit wear, join the PTA and make a donation to the PTA!

Treasurer Needed

The PTA is still in need of a treasurer for the 2016-17 school year. Ideally this person will be able to do it for two years. Have you thought about getting involved, but haven’t taken that step? Contact Kim Miller for additional information if you have an interest.

How to Find or Contact Us

The RMS PTA has a website, rmspta.my-pta.org, that contains a lot of useful information throughout the school year. We also have a Facebook Page (Robious Middle School PTA). We use this page for keeping you informed of our activities. We welcome your suggestions for bettering our PTA or school. You can contact any of the board via email. That information is listed on the PTA website, but for immediate questions, you can contact the PTA president, Kim Miller,kimberlyhmiller@comcast.net.

We look forward to meeting and working with everyone this year!
