This week is National School Counselor Week! School counselors are the unsung heroes of education. Martha Turner, Carolyn Mallory, Melanie Smith, Elizabeth Farner, and Brooke Olson deserve more than a week of recognition. I honestly don't know how they manage everything that they do for every stakeholder at RMS. They log an incredible number of hours and much of what they do is behind the scenes. They are always ready to drop everything to help anyone with anything. The RMS community is extremely fortunate to have such dedicated and positive individuals as our school counselors. Be sure to thank them...often
February is Black History Month and it is a time when we remember and recognize the important contributions and achievements of African Americans throughout our nation's history. We are recognizing this important month in a variety of ways. On Friday, February 2nd-Storyteller Charmaine Crowell White presented a re-enactment of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad for 6th grade from 8:45-9:45. Some of our 6th-grade students will be performing on stage with her. 7th and 8th grade English classes will be sharing excerpts of books from Black authors and sharing video clips from some of the authors. 6th grade English classes will be doing mini research projects on famous Black Americans highlighting their major contributions and creating a Google slide presentation. Certain classes are studying and going to see the famous play, A Raisin in the Sun. They are also studying excerpts from Lorraine Hansberry's To Be Young, Gifted, and Black as well as the poetry of Langston Hughes. We will also be reading several Black History facts on the morning announcements each day.
Charlotte Bray designed and created our PBIS logo! See a photo of the logo below. She did a great job!
