What brought you to RMI? Please use this space to briefly let our readers know what your life was like when you first found us, Allison, so our readers understand just what a miracle your restoration is.

Allison, how did your restoration actually begin?

It was New Year's Eve, five years ago, when my husband said our marriage (of almost 20 years) was over. He said it right in front of our kids. This happened after I called the other women. I was prompted by the people around me to commit this mistake, so these are the consequences of foolishly following what everyone in the world tells you to do.

When he said this, “our marriage is over”, I was so hurt, confused, afraid...my mind went blank, my life literally stood still. I can’t even recall how I was able to exist each day.

I was born and raised as a Christian and all along I thought I was doing what a Christian should be doing in marriage. I was so wrong. After a few weeks of living in darkness, even contemplating ending my life to stop the pain, God sent me a Christian co-worker. She quietly approached me after noticing I’d lost so much weight and looked so horribly pale. She asked if she could pray for me and shared the words of God as comfort.

When I got home I searched the internet after I heard the words "marriage restoration" from my co-worker. I first found another marriage ministry, which is about praying for my husband. But I needed more! Somehow I finally got hold of the book “How God can and will restore your marriage.” I was so broken from reading it because of seeing all the mistakes I'd made. But at the same time, I was full of hope after reading the book!

My husband then told me he was filing for divorce, and because of this book, I did not hire a lawyer despite opposition from family members. Yes, I still made a lot of mistakes but as I reread and reread the book...God began to get busy transforming me.

How did God change your situation Allison as you sought Him wholeheartedly?

Even though my husband pushed through with the divorce, God got hold of me and I was able to agree enthusiastically and be submissive to all his plans! At the same time, I stopped communicating with family members and friends due to how they were adversely influencing and were discouraging rather than encouraging.

The only exceptions were the few women God sent me to pray with me. Amazingly two of them have restored marriages! So I knew they'd pray the correct way, though they never shared what I should do. Instead, they simply instructed me to follow the RMI principles.

My husband thought his mind was made up about moving out, but soon he was becoming nicer to me, wanting to spend more time with me. When this all started, he didn't even want to see me, not even be in the same room with me.

What principles, from God's Word (or through our resources), Allison, did the Lord teach you during this trial?

I never knew my First Love. All of my life I've longed for someone to love me, which led to unbearable heartaches and so much pain. It's why I contemplated ending my life so I'd finally stop hurting. Then everything changed—when I finally found my real Love. I will never let Him go! My Heavenly Husband taught me how to have a gentle and quiet spirit and to rely on Him completely. Now for the first time in my life, I have so much peace no matter what is happening. It's His love that overflows not only to my husband and children but to everyone I encounter every day! He constantly reminds me of His loving and protective presence in my life. Truthfully He is all that matters to me and yet, not wanting anything but Him, He provides everything I need and even want.

What were the most difficult times that God helped you through Allison?

Definitely the most difficult time was when my husband filed for divorce. To me, it meant the family that I thought I had would be is completely shattered. I was at my lowest when I witnessed the brokenness and pain of my three children, but God...Our Faithful and Loving God intervened! He held us together and began giving me the strength to be the source of strength for my children using His love, which never fails.

Allison, what was the “turning point” of your restoration?

When I finally stopped longing for marriage restoration anymore. Though you hear this is true, it's not something that comes to you until you really and fully understand He really is your husband and He has to come first. Once I felt this way about Him, as my HH, that's when I changed from wanting restoration and began wanting my husband to know Him the way I knew Him.

When God revealed to me that His Son, my Lord and Savior, is really my Heavenly Husband—immediately my longing for an earthly husband was gone. In the midst of this horrible situation is when people around me always complimented me on how inspiring and beautiful I am—without them knowing my real situation.

Even when he moved out and filed for divorce, because of my very changed disposition, our communication never stopped. In fact, as I said, we began to have a better relationship. There was no more fighting or arguments whatsoever. Our house became a home full of peace. Even the friends of my teenage kids were amazed at how they did not seem affected despite what is going on in our family. It’s as though God’s love and mercy are so prevalent that everyone can feel it.

My husband continues to have troubles and he says that coming home, our home, is his only place of refuge. When he comes home, I greet him warmly and welcome him home. Every time he wants to spend time with us, we are there to do so. Even though his life isn't yet right with the Lord, he never hears a word from me or my children. Each day I keep on telling our children to love their Dad using His love so he feels it deep inside. I see they always do so, even though they admit it’s not easy. That's when I reminded them of my faults and shortcomings to their Dad and how this all started. Each time, instead of thinking less of me, they tell me they have forgiven me and they need to do the same thing to their dad, which warms my heart.

Tell us HOW it happened Allison? Did your husband just walk in the front door? Allison, did you suspect or could you tell you were close to being restored?

Not at all. Though God never fails to remind me of His promises to me. Our divorce got pushed through, and my husband was even planning to marry the other women! And yet, in a blink of an eye, God changed our situation around!! This happened almost 9 months after that fateful day! My husband texted me and our children telling us he was coming back home. I accepted him even though there was a divorce because of the fact we were married in the church but he remained in another room until we married again.

It took time, a lot of time, but I continued to seek God regarding my situation. Then, finally, after almost 3 years from when my husband came back...We got married again!! God gave us a new marriage and what was so special about having to wait, is that our grown-up children were there as our witnesses. They stood next to us as we received our marriage vows, hearing their Dad and Mom and God become One!

Would you recommend any of our resource in particular that helped you Allison?

I’ve shared the book How God Can and Will Restore Your Marriage to other women already. Purchasing several at a time to keep with me. This, I say, is my other bible! A Wise Woman book must be read. If you stop before this, then don’t expect your marriage to survive because restoration is tough.

Yes. I encourage everyone the Lord sends to me. I am not silent about what He’s done and how each woman needs to have their own HH.

Either way Allison, what kind of encouragement would you like to leave women with, in conclusion?

Once you returned to your First Love, once you experience His love and begin your abundant life—you will be utterly amazed and overwhelmed by all the love and blessings He longs to give you all the days of your life!!
