the-prophet

Technically all the following information is beyond top-secret {eci} and players or their characters

can legally be killed for blabbing about it. The only persons who know about it are

  • The Bounty Hunter ; Tulon Leifssen, a humanoid
  • The Xeno Preistess ; Tinafey, a winged alien.
  • The Enginseer ; Monty-65, an imperial ad-mech
  • And the servants of the Bounty Hunter,
  • and the assistants of the Enginseer.

By reading on after this point you agree that this info will not spread

and that your life is forfeit to the whims of those to whom the info rightly belongs.

Tinafey likes to collect favors, and when she heard of Monty's mechanical prowess, she decided to put him together

with her "friend" Tulon, who had dropped hints he was looking for an advanced technician.

So she brought the two together, and they looked at the Prophet, an ancient machine.

Truly old almost beyond belief, the Prophet is an ovoid "computer" over 5 meters tall.

When operating, black and red vanes extrude from the surface, and an opening appears in the front

into which a very tall person can step and commune with the machine.

It was manufactured on Mezoa in M31, a combination of pre-heresy tech, old nav methods, and

psychically attuned crystals of elegant design. It was made for the XVII Legion, and was designed to

aid any psyker, librarian, astropath, navigator; really any humanoid with a sixth sense to be a better searcher.

The Prophet, as the machine came to be called, could be used to sharpen one's mind, and affect one's enemies.

In essence, the user became better at finding the way to a goal, and others became worse at finding the user.

Powers:

Navigation: functions as a Navis Prima, a valid user can navigate a ship with this thru the warp. (good quality)

Combat: the user can see better, and can see the way to victory.

Obfuscation: the device and the user will be hidden.

Side Effects:

Vanishing; Obfuscation; Radiation

Drawbacks:

Item was considered "Ramshackle" by its builders.

massive and power inefficient, constantly radiating as if toxic (1) every half hour

to human crewmen assigned to work on it). Increase its Power and Space requirements by 2

However, thanks to its sheer bulk, this Component ignores the first Critical that

would affect it each session. Finally, its obvious weirdness permanently decreases Morale aboard the ship by 1

Users must have high will power, high perception and the the psyniscience skill to use the item at all.

the item doesn't wish to be found or used at all, except by a valid user:

is infuriatingly difficult to find, even when its owner only puts it out of sight for a moment.

Search Tests to find this item suffer a –10 penalty. As a voidship Component, Search or

Navigate Tests to find it aboard the vessel suffer a –10 penalty instead. Willpower tests

can mitigate this penalty. An undisciplined mind might never find it.

Multiple persons can use the item, but not simultaneously. The first user enters the machine, sets up whatever

mode or menu, then swaps places with the 2nd, and they can then access what the first saw.

Frequent users may come to distrust other mechanical sources of information.

Requirements:

Power Drain: uses 1 power even when off, uses 2 power for "personal" activities,

and 4 power if ship-related.

A "valid user" would have psyniscience, WP & Per 40 or more,

and the meditate talent or similar.

The ship on which the Prophet was first installed was lost pre-heresy, so the machine, while strange to modern eyes, actually has no taint of chaos upon it.

History:

the XVII Legion used the device honorably for over 80 years, then it was lost in a battle with a now-dead xeno race near the Calixis sector.

it lay unused for centuries as no one unpsychic can understood its function, and no xeno can use it anyways.

Finally it was found by a psychic inquisitor, who used it for his whole life, but he died and the device passed into series of petty warlords

and governors who misused

Diagram:

Don't let the hastily prepared tech drawing fool you, the device is huge, rugged, and powerful. And strangely pretty.

it has an imposing dark red, black, and grey color scheme.

The device is 11K years old, but the external portions( surger, cables, etc) only 7k years)

The outer shell is thick dark metal, from which crimson vanes can emerge and wave about.

The interior is not visible from outside, and has a ten-layer interlocking crystal matrix, very psi-active.

The radiation emits from the top layer, where the power converts, and from the tenth layer.

If you can locate it, a front compartment opens into which a tall humanoid can enter.

There is no seat, and the yellow sphere is not visible to normal eyes.

One stands in the compartment with their head in the middle of the yellow field.

Externally power comes from a ship or reactor, the surger does many functions. It protects

the device from the ship, and vice versa, and it stores power for later needs in the battery.

Also it converts power from any local format to the needs of the device.

The tenth layer serves as a secondary internal battery. The device never becomes unpowered. (for a while)

Also the device can be set to overload, and destroy the ship it is on.

Game Mechanics:

WP and Perc tests to even find the device. Psyniscience to activate menu (non-corporeal) Meditate to draw top functions.

1st tier uses: Gain +5 to Search, Navigate and similar skills. One day per Char. Level, +WP bonus, Perc bonus, and Psy levels.

Navigate: User can Navigate Warp if he can see the warp, can Navigate ship if he can see the stars.

2nd tier uses: Search bonuses go up to +10 with meditate successes.

Navigation can be done with +5 bonus.

User may use his PER bonus in place of WS/BS if he likes. Duration as above.

3rd tier uses: search goes to +15, nav to +10.

Opponents of the user must make WP & Per tests to find him. Range is 500km from user. duration as above.

4th tier: Durations of above items go to D5 days per point....

Opponents of the user must make opposed rolls to interact with the user at all. If they fail they suffer hallucinations

duration is 1 day. Range is 100 km from user.

"Opponent" an extremely loose term. Combat is obvious, but also means a sniper. It also means an economic opponent,

or an adversary in a poker game, or a social rival. It gets weird at this level.

The overload function detonates like a nova cannon template.
