Dust Motes have only been found to appear on the Prime Material after some sort of planar disaster or sorcerous accident. None of the common summoning spells reference their handle for conjuration. It is not believed that they are even in the usual evolution of earth species, but rather

that they are “regular size” elementals that have met with some sort of draining or diminishment

to which their kind is not ordinarily susceptible.

The Druids smirked at our legend lore requests, but our man Kuravesh currently sojourns on the Earth Plane looking for

answers; but since the issue of “tiny sized elementals” is the 21st of his long list of questions, hopes are not high that he

will return with the lore to explain these.

Hover: They can exude a scratchy powder as they fly, and Motes who hover near the face of an enemy (one who breathes)

can force on them a Fortitude save each round (DC 16, +1 per previous check) or they spend that round choking and coughing.

A character who chokes for 2 consecutive rounds takes 1d6 points of nonlethal damage.

The fire-motes that comprise a Cinder-Swarm seem to be a completely different species.
