Architecture is designing for the built environment.  Studying Architecture students improve their hand-eye coordination, lateral thinking, critical thinking skills and problem solving skills. 

What will I learn?

Students will learn about  building structures and materials and then integrate this knowledge and understanding with manual drawing and rendering skills to create elevations, plans and 3 dimensional drawings. They will explore a range of techniques in the area of manual drawing and rendering, which they will then import in and refine through Digital drawing using Adobe Illustrator, Sweet Home 3D, and Google Sketchup Pro. The classes cover practical projects that aim to equip students with the skills necessary to build a visual diary portfolio demonstrating their skills. 

What will I do?

Students will learn to write a design brief. They will learn to take their ideas, develop them into concepts which they then draw into various communication drawings. They will produce drawings of a site analysis, floor plan concept drawings, Elevation drawings and 3-dimensional concept drawings. They will learn to import and refine their final drawings on the computer using Adobe illustrator, Google Sketchup and Sweet Home 3D. Students will use the plans, that they have created, to build a scale model. They will have an opportunity to communicate with an architect to learn about the profession and their projects. 

What will this lead to?

Skills and Processes studied in Year 10 Architecture lead directly to VCE Visual Communication, Studio Arts and/or Media. 

The study of architecture will assist any student who is considering post-secondary study in the visual arts.

Career possibilities include; Landscape Architect, Urban Planner, Restoration Architect, Research Architect, Lighting Architect, Political Architect, Extreme Architect, Artist, Industrial Designer, Furniture Designer, Textile Designer, Graphic Designer, Video Game Designer, Photographer, Production Designer.
