Students pursue their ideas through a series of 3 dimensional practical and theoretical projects. By choosing Ceramics and Sculpture, students develop problem-solving skills that incorporate aspects of design, practical art techniques and personal expression. Students also benefit greatly from being able to use tactile objects to create a range of artworks.
What will I learn?
Students learn to represent 3 dimensional ideas in drawing. They develop a range of skills through the exploration of materials that may include, but are not limited to, clay, paper-mache, wire, wood, recycled materials, mosaic and cane. They learn to document and reflect on their explorations in a visual diary.
Students generate ideas, develop them into concepts, investigate working with 3 dimensional materials and learn methods of construction to create Ceramic and Sculpture artworks.
Assessment tasks will be written and practical. Students’ practical assignments will be documenting their developmental stages in a visual diary, which is also part of each student’s assessment. Students will investigate a range of artists who work using 3D materials and apply learned knowledge and skills to their own work.
With its emphasis on ‘hands on’ making, creative, critical and reflective thinking this subject is an excellent springboard into VCE Studio Arts and/or VCE Visual Communication and Design.
