The underlying principles of Mathematics study is that students will: - Develop mathematical knowledge and skills; Apply mathematical knowledge to analyse, investigate, model and solve problems in a variety of situations; Use technology to support the learning of mathematics. These three types of mathematical activities form the basis of each unit of Mathematics.
What will I learn?
The Maths Extension program will focus on Problem Solving, Mathematical processes and Investigation. Students will study advanced Algebra Techniques, Trigonometry and areas of interest they are encouraged to identify.
What will I do?
Students will extend their knowledge of key concepts studied in Core Mathematics. They will explore concepts from first principals and develop techniques to solve problems efficiently. There is an emphasis on using technology to model and solve problems.
What will this lead to?
This elective can be taken as extension to the Year 9 Core Mathematics curriculum exploring concepts that will lead onto Year 10 Advanced General Mathematics. This unit should be considered for students planning to study Year 10 Advanced General Mathematics in the following year.
Why choose this subject?
Maths Extension provides students the opportunity to challenge themselves and extend their Maths knowledge. Students should choose this subject if they enjoy Mathematics and problem solving.
It provides an avenue for students to demonstrate their Mathematical knowledge and problem solving ability.
Duration: 3 lessons per week - Semester long subject
