Major Games refer to Olympic, Asian, Commonwealth, South East Asian and Para equivalents. Simply put, they tend to be world recognised sports/events.
Some examples of major games include Cricket, Football, Rugby, Hockey, etc.
Students will vote for 3 Major Games that they would like to focus on for the semester.
These 3 sports will be thoroughly investigated, including a focus on:
History of the sport
Fitness components that are most important
Different key skills involved
Strategies and factors involved in decision making in the sport
Rules and how to umpire/officiate the sport
Ways to modify the sport
Analysis of sporting data
There will also be 1-2 weeks between each Major Game where the class can play some of the sports that just missed out on the top 3, as well as opportunities for some sport excursions off campus.
Students learn to develop effective teamwork skills, effective decision-making in sport and ways to modify sports to make them more inclusive for a range of ages, abilities and backgrounds.
Duration: 3 periods per week for one semester
