Subject Prospectus - The Arts

Art Year 10 2021

Studying Art enriches the experience of studying while at school. Art encourages self-expression through creativity and improves your critical thinking skills. Art helps with your wellbeing and happiness.  It is a self-discovery and discovery of artists and art styles.

What will I learn?

Students will learn about Art materials, techniques and processes using a range of materials. Students will learn to document their art making journey in their visual diary and see their progressive development of a personal Art style. Students will be introduced to historical and contemporary artists and artworks learning about their creative processes. The students will explore Indigenous Australian art through the ‘Indigenous Perspectives Project’, where they will learn traditional art practices including painting, ceramics, paper-mache, wire, wood, recycled materials, mosaic and weaving. 

They will be guided by local Indigenous artists and elders. 

You learn to document and reflect on their explorations in a visual diary.  You will learn art terms and vocabulary which they will apply in their reflective and analytical writing.

What will I do?

Students explore painting (watercolour, ink & acrylic), printmaking (linocut, drypoint, monoprint, collagraph), manual and digital drawing (charcoal, pencil, pen, marker, ink, ipad) and sculture and ceramics to express their creativity. 

What will this lead to?

Skills studied in Art will spark a passion for pursuing Art. It will lead into VCE Art Making and Exhibiting, Visual Communication and/or Media.
