Year 9 Music enables students who play a musical instrument (of any standard) the opportunity to develop performance skills in a group situation.
In preparation to succeed in this subject, a basic ability to read music is desired but not required, and a willingness to listen and respond to a variety of different music and develop theoretical skills is essential.
What will I learn?
The course incorporates a number of areas of study such as songwriting understanding music theory. You will learn how to examine the impact of music on the world around you, and develop your personal voice as a musician. You will learn how to apply music theory to these perspective to broaden your musical knowledge.
What will I do?
Students will discover the diversity of music styles through listening, discussion, research, theory, aural comprehension and practical experiences. Students will examine the impact of music by studying protest songs, and learn how to express their personal voice through songwriting.
What will this lead to?
Students will build their music skills to enable them to progress onto Year 10 and VCE music electives. Students might like to enter into our Instrumental Music program.
