The Year 10 Humanities curriculum offers a comprehensive and engaging exploration of the four core domains: Civics and Citizenship, Geography, History, and Business and Economics. This integrated program is designed to develop critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of the world and society. Additionally, it incorporates the first two units of Work-Related Skills (WRS), providing students with practical knowledge and competencies for their future careers.
What will I learn?
Civics and Citizenship
Students will delve into the structures and processes of government and democracy, examining how laws are made and upheld. They will explore the rights and responsibilities of citizens, and the importance of active participation in civic life.
Geography
This domain focuses on the study of physical and human environments. Students will investigate geographical phenomena, human impact on the environment, and sustainable management of resources. They will also develop skills in spatial analysis and geographic information systems (GIS).
History
In History, students will journey through significant events, movements, and developments from the modern era. They will analyze historical sources, understand different perspectives, and develop a sense of historical empathy and inquiry.
Business and Economics
This area introduces students to the fundamentals of economics and the business world. They will learn about economic systems, the role of markets, and the factors influencing business decisions. Practical activities will help students grasp concepts of financial literacy and entrepreneurship.
Work-Related Skills (WRS)
The first two units of WRS are seamlessly integrated into the Humanities curriculum. These units will equip students with essential skills for the workplace, such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and the ability to adapt to change. Emphasis will be placed on real-world applications and project-based learning as well as career investigation and post-high school training options, including University and TAFE.
What will I do?
Life experiences built into the course include work experience, career counselling and a variety of guest speakers.
