Year 8 French

Subject Prospectus - Languages

An introductory course in each of French and Indonesian is taught in Year 7. At the end of Year 7, students are required to choose one language for study – French or Indonesian – which is compulsory until the end of Year 8.

What will I learn?

At Warrnambool College we use a communicative approach to language study, combining listening, speaking, reading and writing skills that focus on everyday life situations. The focus is students developing meaning and understanding related to both culture and language.

What will I do?

Year 8 topics covered in French include self-introductions, self-descriptions, pets, ordering food at a restaurant, talking about family, culture and grammar. In Year 9 students build on these foundation skills and improve their language proficiency.

What will this lead to?

Students will build their skills into year 9 and thereafter make an informed choice to continue with the subject as an elective.

Duration:  3 periods per week for the year
