In this elective build on the skills developed in the year 9 elective and junior drama classes.
Students will explore the development, significance and style of theatre making through the ages. From Ancient Greek Theatre until present day Contemporary Australian Theatre, there is a world of theatre for the students to discover. There will be an even balance of both practical and theoretical classes. Students will also be introduced to the main dramatic elements which contribute to performance. Students will also have the opportunity to devise their own performance, which will culminate in a fully rehearsed, presented piece of theatre.
Students will participate in a wide range of individual and group exercises as they workshop dramatic elements and theatrical styles. Through role play students explore, imagine and take risks to communicate ideas, characters, situations, experiences and stories. In making and staging drama students will learn how to be focused, innovative and resourceful as they collaborate and take on responsibilities for drama presentations.
Where possible, students will be exposed to live theatre performances as the opportunities become available.
