Do you love playing music? Are you trying to improve your musical skills to take you into senior music and into the rest of your life? Then Year 10 Music is for you!
This subject will explore some of the most important movements in music’s history, build on your performance skills and teach you how to write and perform many different genres of music.
In order to succeed in this subject, a basic ability to read music is required. You must play an instrument to a reasonable level (including singing or rapping), and be willing to listen to and respond to a variety of different music, and develop your performance skills. If you are a rapper or drummer, it is recommended that you have skills on a second melodic instrument to succeed in some elements of this subject.
Students will develop their knowledge of music theory, and learn to how to apply it when they perform. They will also learn how to identify scales, intervals, chords and chord progressions. Students will analyse pieces of music. There is also a strong performance element in this subject, in both group and solo settings.
Students will complete weekly theory/aural tasks, and present a short program of solo and group works with members of the class. They will also complete a series of analysis tasks, and complete composition tasks. Students will also learn about various movements in musical history, and learn how to perform them.
This subject will prepare students for VCE Music, as well as VET Music studies. This subject will also show students how to take their passion and skills in music and use that in their life outside of school.
Students who have been learning a musical instrument for some time and have reached a suitable level of performance might like to do Year 10 Music.
This subject will allow you to examine your relationship to music, challenge your performance skills and build your confidence in your musicianship.
The subject will cover many different genres of music, including Pop, Rock, Hip Hop/Rap, The Musical styles of 18th Century European Composers, Serialism, Bossa Nova and many others. We will listen to, analyse, and play these genres.
