Technology provides students with the opportunity to be actively engaged in authentic, relevant learning tasks. Students will follow the design process to design and build products that meet a design need. Through research and development, students will understand the need for their product. Through the creative process, they will generate and refine their ideas to produce origanl products to high standard.
What will I learn?
In Year 7 students are introduced to the Design Process, where they will follow a sequence of steps to research information, generate ideas, manage production and evaluate their designs. Students will learn:
different tools, equipment and processes.
different materials and their properties
graphic communication skills (drawing)
Use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software applications.
working safely in practical tasks.
What will I do?
In Product Design, students research design needs and develop ideas for products that will satisfy those needs. Students will use a range of tools, equipment and techniques in order to process materials into products, and must consider ecological and environmental factors. Students will document their design work in a Folio, and evaluate their products and processes to identify improvements and consolidate learning.
What will this lead to?
Students will build their skills to lead into Year 8 Product Design
Duration: 3 periods per week for one semester
