Wanderlust

Wanderlust (noun):  a very strong desire to travel.

This elective offers students an introduction to level 9 geography, history, critical and creative thinking, intercultural capacity, and ethical capacity.

What will I learn?

Geography will focus on Environmental Change and Management with assessment including mapping, data collection and interpretation, mini research, analysis, essential questions and key geographical concepts.

History will focus on the Globalising World (popular culture, political crisis and the Environment movement) with assessment include the use of primary source evidence, identifying continuity and change, analysing cause and consequence, taking a historical perspective, and understanding the ethical dimension of historical interpretations.

What will I do?

CAT 1 – My local festival.

This is the first of two assessments in the topic and through this unit we will cover tourism.

We will analyse data on the tourism industry such as where and when people will travel locally, nationally and globally. Wanderlust students will explore the impacts tourism has on the land as well as communities and countries by identifying change due to cause and consequence. Students will also look at how to be responsible tourists by considering their own impact socially and culturally when planning an event to draw tourists to the area.

CAT 2 – Where in the world am I?

This CAT will have a focus on Australia and the world around us. We will look at historical and cultural significance of certain locations around the globe and why they are significant. Students will then use a range of key knowledge and terms to analyse and compare countries taking into account historical and cultural perspectives. Students will then take these skills and plan their own adventure around the globe visiting these locations and talking about their impact on the local community.

What will this lead to?

Students will be exposed to the skills required for VCE success in these subject areas. Successful completion may allow students to access History, Geography or Global Politics as VCE Unit 1 & 2 in year 10
