On normal days like this, 18 year old Emma Smith would be working on homework or making up stories on her computer for fun. Today was different though, Emma was sitting at her computer just waiting for an email from Harvard seeing if she got accepted into her dream school or not.
Emma froze as soon as she saw the email from Harvard come in. Her hand began to shake as she moved the mouse to open the email. When she opened the email, her body became limp, she could feel the tears just waiting to explode. She had been denied from her dream school. Emma has obviously applied for other colleges but she really thought she would have been accepted into Harvard, she got straight As, she had never EVER gotten in trouble before and most importantly she had the money for it. Emma just sat and stared at the computer hoping this was just a nightmare and she would wake up any second, but it wasn’t. This was real and there was nothing she could do or say.
Finally, after about an hour, she began to move and the tears just came gushing out of her eyes and she was unable to help it, so she just let herself cry. Her mom heard the crying and came upstairs to see what was going on. As soon as she saw Emma, she knew immediately what happened. Emma's mom stood in the doorway staring at Emma, then the computer, and then Emma again. Emma's mother didn’t know what to say, she just went over and comforted Emma the best she could. This did make Emma feel a little bit better with her mother's comfort and knowing she did have other opportunities with the other emails she had sent to colleges, with all her hope she was wishing she got into her second choice, Stanford University.
The rest of the night was a blur. Emma didn’t remember when she fell asleep or when her mother left. Once she woke up, she immediately realized she hadn’t changed out of her day clothes and she began to smell from not taking a shower. After getting a nice warm shower and changing into clean clothes, Emma realized she was going to be late for school! She jetted downstairs and grabbed her book bag, books, and homework. She didn’t even bother to eat breakfast or say bye to her mom since her mom was still sleeping. Emma hopped into her car and began pulling out of the driveway when her phone went off.
Confused, Emma looked at it and then froze for a moment before screaming her head off with excitement! Emma had been offered a spot at her second choice college, Stanford University! She didn’t even care if she was late to school. She ran inside the front door and practically slammed the door open to her mother's room. Her mother woke up alarmed. Without even hesitating, Emma began talking super fast and her mother couldn’t even understand. After calming down, Emma began explaining, in a more normal speed, that she had been accepted into Stanford University. Her mother jumped up so energetically, you would have thought she had drank a big can of Monster (the energy drink).
After both Emma and her mom calmed down, they decided Emma was already late enough so she might as well not go to school. After a long talk of whether or not to accept the college application, they ended up deciding to accept. After that day, Emma began working extra hard at school and the last day finally came upon her. She was sad to be leaving her school but excited for all of the journeys in store for her at college.
