If you are expecting the unexpected, isn’t the unexpected now expected?
The definition of expect is to regard (something) as likely to happen. So if you are regarding the unexpected to likely happen, you expect it! Think about it this way: you expect to eat pizza for dinner. If you switch to expecting to have hamburgers, you are expecting to have hamburgers. That means you are expecting something that you don’t expect to happen. This is not one you need to overcomplicate.
