This piece was one of the more sophisticated ones I have written. I actually wrote this for my mom's tutoring business! I am so happy with how it turned out, and would love for you to read it.
Moving Into Middle School From a 6th Grader's Eyes
By Noah Solovey
It's how schooling works: you transition from Elementary School to Middle, then High, and eventually, you will find yourself at college. Transitioning is hard for many people, new skills, new teachers, new schools, and even new classmates. You'll find that every school year gets more challenging, with new concepts every day. A crucial part of learning is adjusting from Elementary to Middle School - and how you deal with the change.
My name is Noah Solovey, and I've just started 6th Grade. I have experienced transitioning, so why not write a blog about it? I love to write, so this was enjoyable to write. So without further ado, let's list some critical things I have noticed in my transition from Elementary to Middle School.
Switching Classes
The first difference is switching classes. Most schools have a Reading, Social Studies, Math, Science, and Writing Class. Explorations differentiate everywhere. Each of these classes requires a binder or notebook in most schools. Depending on when you have locker breaks, you will have to carry all supplies for each room you have between locker breaks. I recommend staying organized, which benefits how you can stay focused and calm at times. Though I should listen to my advice, because I am not an organized person, though I want to be one!
Education Change
From homework to essays, and math assessments to tests. It will be far more challenging. I recommend developing good study habits and note-taking skills. I recommend flashcards, and note-taking pays off. Grading is different and I recommend 100% effort to help achieve high ones. For my school, students came from over ten Elementary Schools, so everyone will have a different skill set.
Responsibility
There will be more independence and responsibility. You will be expected to take ownership of your learning and manage your time effectively.
Out-of-School Activities
There will be more opportunities to participate in sports, clubs, and other activities outside of the classroom. I recommend getting involved in many things, as I do Odyssey of The Mind, Robotics, and Soccer.
After all, get ready for a transition in your academic journey. Middle School is a nerve-racking place, but it can be fun at the same time. Take these tips for granted and have a great, three years in Middle School. Speaking of three years, in three years you'll probably see a blog uploaded about moving into high school, which will have far more bullet points.
