ondon VS Montreal | The Grand Battle
By Noah Solovey
London: the hearth of England booms with excitement where a busy city with many activities is located. London is famous for its history, football (or as you may call it: soccer), and incredible ambiance.
Amsterdam; London’s epic sidekick has canals everywhere you look and bikes always zooming by you! With historical figures like Anne Frank and Vincent Van Gogh living in Amsterdam, you can smell its past when walking through the beautiful streets.
These two places make Team Londerdam!
Montreal: when you say Quebec, this word comes to mind! Montreal has it all: scenery, fun, and joyous people! The city runs on its popularity and aura, so don’t be surprised if you are standing in Old Montreal, and are breathtaking by the beauty of the city.
Lake George; Montreal’s Glorious sidekick is full of amazed tourists and beautiful water. Being a secret vacation spot in the whisps of New York, many love opening their eyes to the small and cute town existing around the lake. With islands and many picture spots, Lake George is extravagant!
These two places make Team Geortreal!
A while ago, I took a vacation to London, and then after that, I took a small trip to Amsterdam. Pretty recently, I took a road trip to Montreal and made stops in New York City, Lake George, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Boston. Out of all of the stops we made before Montreal, I enjoyed Lake George the most, so Lake George will be Montreal’s sidekick in this 1v1 contest! Wait, you’re asking why am I choosing a place to be a sidekick of two cities? Here’s why!
In this editorial, I’m going to be putting my two vacations against each other and tallying up the points to decide the grand winner! For each subject they are being judged on, I’ll talk about an activity and my opinion on the subject for that place. Then, I’ll give the final rankings on which one is better. The winning team from a 1v1 will get 1 point. But when the sidekicks want to say something, Amsterdam and Lake George (which from now on I’m going to refer to as George because 1. It is easier and 2. It is kind of funny) will step into the standings. First place will get four points, second will get three, third will get two, and fourth will get zero. Each team also get one phone a friend option. On each round, I’ll give my verdicts on the subject and the team and then look at them both to decide a winner. Enjoy!
WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, LET’S BEGIN!
Game 1:
Which vacation spot has a better ambiance?
Team London: When I went to London, I did a rocket boat tour on the River Thames where you did not get splashed (remember that) and it was amazing! I saw an amazing view of London and learned so much about the city. Then, when the rocket idea kicked in, it felt like you were in a James Bond Movie! It was so much fun!
Team Montreal: When I went to Montreal, we went on a rocket boat tour on the St Lawrence River Rapids and we got SOAKED! Waves would hit us and it was crazy! It was so much fun but judging by the Ambience, it was very beautiful!
Moderator: Do the sidekicks have any verdicts?
Sidekick Amsterdam: While I was in Amsterdam, I took a canal cruise and it was beautiful, I think out of the four places this had the best ambiance.
Sidekick George: Funny enough, I also took a steamboat tour in George! This one was fun and beautiful, but the tour part didn’t have too much of a ring. The ambiance though, is world-class.

Time for round ⅖!
Game 2:
Which spot has more history?
Team London: By doing some research, London was founded in 43 CE by the Romans and London’s history traces back extremely far. London is much older than the US and many historical people were born in London. Even though Amsterdam has so much history, I don’t London needs a sidekick with its incredible history. Did you know all the kings and queens of England are part of the same bloodline?
Team Montreal: Wow! I just learned that Montreal is a lot more recent and doesn’t have that much history at all. I know this could be a good phone for a friend, but I’ll save that.
The final rankings for this segment are:
1st: Team Londerdam (1 Point)
2nd: Team Georgtreal (0 Points)
That makes the standings:

Time for round ⅗!
Game 3:
Which spot has more activities?
Moderator: This is the AI round! Teams have no say, AI does!
Chat GPT: In terms of sheer quantity and variety of activities, London typically offers more options compared to Montreal. London is one of the largest and most diverse cities in the world, with a plethora of attractions, cultural experiences, entertainment venues, historical sites, shopping districts, and dining options spread across its expansive urban landscape.
Chat GPT: Amsterdam generally offers a broader and more diverse range of attractions and activities compared to Lake George.
The final rankings for this segment are:
1st: London (4 Points)
2nd: Amsterdam (3 Points)
3rd: Montreal (2 Points)
4th: Lake George (0 Points)
That makes the standings:
1st: Team Londerdam (16 Points)
2nd: Team Georgtreal (4 Points)
Time for round ⅘!
Game 4:
Which spot has better education?
Moderator: Time for another special round! This is the bonus round! For the top two teams, points are worth x2! But for 3rd and 4th, 0 points! This is a required sidekick round!
Team London: London does not have many notable collages though their vocabulary in the English language is super smart. London has more runs of activities and a cool history.
Team Amsterdam: Van Gogh and Anne Frank did live here, though there are not many notable schools and colleges that are knowable.
Team Montreal: I went to visit McGill while I was in Montreal and it was very cool. It is a very notable college and Montreal has many educated people!
Team George: I think George could definitely use his phone as a friend here, so why not?
Boston, MA: During the road trip back from Montreal, I visited Boston, MA. They have so many popular collages and the most notable one is Havard! I did go to see the collage and it was really cool!
Here are the rankings for this part!
1st: Lake George (8 Points)
2nd: Team Montreal (6 Points)
3rd: Team London (0 Points)
4th: Team Amsterdam (0 Points)
Wow! Here are the standings!
1st: Team Georgtreal (18 Points)
2nd: Team Londerdam (16 Points)
Without further ado, let the final round begin! And for kicks, double points!
Game 5:
Which spot has better scenery?
Team London: When I went to London, the scenery and aesthetic were absolutely 10/10! And the idea of just standing in infamous London was amazing. I don’t think anything can beat the football game my family and I went to and that visualization of the epic and gigantic Wembley Stadium.
Team Montreal: The scenery was amazing in Montreal, but London was definitely better! London just has that aura and chime!
The rankings for this segment are……….
1st: Team Londerdam (2 Points)
2nd: Team Georgtreal (0 Points)
That makes the final standings;
1st: Team Londerdam (18 Points)
2nd: Team Georgtreal (18 Points
OH MY GOSH! IT’S A TIE! THAT CALLS FOR AN EXTRA ROUND!
TIEBREAKER:
Noah’s Favorite!
Personally, both vacations were absolutely amazing so this will be really hard. The winner will get 1 point.
Team Londerdam: I think London will go down as my favorite place I’ve ever visited, and even though I’m only twelve, I think out of all the places I’ll go in my entire life London will be the best and most remarkable. Amsterdam, too, was unforgettable. I will never forget the Anne Frank Huis and biking through Vondell Park. Also, Team Londerdam has not used it’s phone a friend so I think right now is the perfect time. I just asked my family, what did they like better, our London trip or our Montreal trip, they all said London.
Team georgtreal: This trip was also fantastic, but I didn’t like all the driving. But Montreal was so cool. I ziplined across the city, I did the rapids tour, and I’ll never forget it. But all in all, there must a be winner of this, so even though Montreal is a good fight against London…
THE WINNER IS… LONDON!
