You fell from the sky.
You fell into my mind.
I felt your presence.
I felt the good times.
Somehow I knew,
This was not real.
Yet we tripped all day,
And we tripped all night.
We were so happy.
We were so happy.
Then came the time,
You told me to wake you
I tried so hard…
I tried so hard…
But I was the only one who did.
The main focus of the poem derives from a dream I had a while ago. I made the poem repetitive to represent how I wanted the dream to last forever despite knowing everything was temporary. I structured it to be quite simple, using only 2 lines per stanza because dreams usually show psychological feelings and even trauma with complexity and hidden meaning. Since I immediately knew what the dream was deeply about, I felt like expressing myself in clear short lines gave a deeper feeling. My inspiration comes from the grief I feel from the loss of my mom 3 months ago and how even in my sleep the pain is still affecting me.
I really love the second to last stanza because it's kind of like this pull back to reality after this peaceful and happy space we create in our dreams or minds. This really made me think of the dreams I had that I want to keep living in forever.
