I am an Evergreen Tree
Not the beautiful part but the consistent part
As time goes, by my colors remain
The leaves of my friends change, while mine stay the same
I am an Evergreen Tree
But not the kind that leaves you mesmerized
All my friends vibrate with colors
While mine never arrive
I am an Evergreen Tree
As the colors fade and the leaves of friends shrivel and fall
I remain untouched
Unbothered
I am an Evergreen Tree
Watch me thrive in this changing environment
I may be consistent
But this is exactly what makes me different.
The thing that inspired me to write this essay was the feeling of being left out. Throughout the years, I see my friends changing, evolving. As I look back at old photos, I see that I haven't changed. My hair stays the same, my face stays the same. I don’t make bold moves with my appearance. But as I get older, I see the regrets many people have with their past choices regarding their appearance. Something to know about myself is that I am not bold. I tend to stay in the safe lane and sometimes that’s better than any change.
I enjoyed reading your poem because of the relation I had with it. I love the comparison you did with the Evergreen tree. I wish you a positive journey into accepting the things you can't change about yourself and learning to love them because you're amazing.
