The power of motivation. Motivation is a good thing, it can change someone for the better. It’s a feeling you get when you want something and you’re willing to work for it. Finding the motivation can be hard but when you get motivated it’s hard to get out of it.
People have different motivations based on their thinking and their desires. One person could be motivated to save up for a retro car while another person wants to lose weight and exercise. Either way, motivation can push someone to do something they normally wouldn't do. Motivation can lead to good habits. Someone who wants to lose weight and exercise or even gain weight in muscle starts to exercise daily and eat healthy which is a good habit. Someone who wants to save up for a car will learn to save extra money in case they need to make a big purchase for an emergency. Which is a good habit.
I’ll use myself as my example. I suck at saving money. Like really really suck at it. I am so bad at saving money that I would get big paychecks over the summer and by the first week of getting paid I had a little over $100 or even less than $100. I know how hard it is to make money. I worked my butt off over the summer but somehow I still don’t know the “value” of a dollar. My mom would always say “just wait until you work, then you’re gonna see how hard it is to earn a dollar” and I did.I still wasted it and spent like an idiot. But that’s not what this piece is about, it’s just context for my next part.
I spent money like there’s no tomorrow and now I want to save up as much as I can to buy a Honda S-2000. The Honda S-2000 is a dream. It’s like the Mayweather of cars. It’s light, fast, and can win circuit races. I’m really motivated since I started finding AP1’s (S2ks)for under $25k. Ever since I got my license I’ve been looking at their price, and crappy AP1’s were $30k and above so now that they’re more affordable I want to save up. I’ve never been good with saving money but now I want to change that to get that AP1. Most of my money goes on food and gas. I plan on driving less and only going out if I have to. This one is really gonna make me feel bad but maybe I’ll cut my spending on going out with my friend. We usually go out every other day and eat, do a fun activity, and go shopping. But now I’ll cut my spending on that and just go out once a week. I want to put $50 to the side every week to save up for the AP1 and if I can maybe even do $100 every week if I really cut back on spending and only spend on gas.
I’m so motivated that I talked to my family and my friends about how I want to save so I can't be too generous anymore with lifts and buying them food. Motivation can really change someone for the better. I’m learning to be more financially smart and start saving. It’s good to know I have money on the reserve so even after I get the AP1 I plan to keep saving. My motivation has changed me for the better and now I’m a lot more responsible with how I spend my money.
I wrote this essay because I want to get myself a fun car that I can enjoy driving and try to learn some cool new driving techniques with. I also want to learn how to save up money because I spend my money like it's unlimited. In my piece I wanted to keep it relatively simple so I used repetition, some anecdotes, and similes.
