Description: 

Evergreen shrubs, 2-4 m tall. Leaves simple, alternate, extremely variable, may be entire and elliptic or oval, or they may be fiddle shaped, or 3-lobed, basally rounded to somewhat emarginate, often with two sessile glands, Pistillate flowers, in the centre of the dichasia; calyx lobes basally connate, lobes triangular to ovate, basally green, rest dark red; petals free, obovate, dark red. Male flowers: calyx lobes ovate; petals curved backwards; stamens 10, in 2 whorls of 5. Fruits oblong, c. 1 cm long, dehiscing septicidally, smooth, green.
