Description: 

Large shrubs to small trees, stems terete; younger stems conspicuously ringed with leaf scars. Leaves 20-60 cm long, narrowly elliptic-oblanceolate, rounded or acute at the apex, bright green and often variegated above, paler green beneath, usually drooping. The flowers in terminal panicles, 15-100 cm long. Flowers ca. 2.5 cm diameter, fragrant. Perianth six-lobed, lobes 7-12 mm, pink at first, opening white with a fine red or purple central line.
