Description:
Perennial rhizomatous evergreen herbs, to 1 m tall; stems clustered, sometimes spiral. Leaves simple, alternate, spirally arranged, ovate to elliptic. Inflorescence, terminal, ovoid to cylindrical spike, glossy red. Flowers tubular, 1 or 2 per bract. Corolla orange to red. Lip oblong, yellow, lateral lobes inrolled, tubular. Stamens 1, petaloid, yellow.
