Twining fleshy herbs; stems terete, purple or green. Leaves to simple, ovate, acute or obtuse, rounded at base, fleshy. Flowers in axillary, erect, 6-10 cm long spikes. Perianth calycine, lobes 5. Stamens 5. Utricle globose, 5 mm across, fleshy, purple or white.
